Being a Day Care Center in Garner, NC, we are dedicated advocates of quality learning. We also know that in the first five years of life, children can absorb more learning than at any age. For this reason, our programs and lessons are geared to harness this potential.
One way to promote toddlers’ quality learning is through reading. If you want to nurture your child’s deeper learning, get them started on reading through exposure with books. But then again, how do you know if you have selected the right kinds of books for your toddlers?
To answer that question, here are some tips that you might find helpful.
- Age-appropriate
Even with books, age-appropriateness is still applicable. Because there are many different kinds of children’s books in the market, it is important to select the ones that are right for their age. For instance, toddlers enjoy those books that have many pictures, short phrases, rhymes, and repetitions. On the other hand, preschoolers have a higher preference. They would want books with at least two sentences every page and have clearer pictures.
As you select books for your toddlers, consider their age. Select the ones that they can read on their own or with pictures they can identify by themselves.
- Variety
Have you noticed that your toddler has a “favorite” book? They will read it over and over again. Yet, it is also important that our toddlers can experience a variety of subjects. One book can be about letters. Another book will be on numbers. Then, another book is all about colors. You also need to consider the models or items presented in the books. Some are toys, others are animals, and others are plants. This variety can expand their learning exposure.
- Interesting
As a toddler, your child can already have special interests. For instance, you observed that your toddler is interested in cats. Use this interest as your cue in selecting their books. Choose ones that have different kinds of cats in them, for instance. This way, your toddler can be even more interested in reading.
- Real Events
As a provider of Quality Care for Children in Garner, North Carolina, we also recommend that you select books that copy real events in your toddler’s life. Look for books that have pictures of toddlers taking a bath, eating vegetables, or playing with blocks. They can associate themselves with these pictures.
At Little Believer’s Academy, we know that toddlers can develop a love for reading when we coach them the right way. In our Child Care Centre in Garner, NC, we have educators who can support children’s love for learning. At home, the toddler’s support is you.
