When we were still children attending school, we all have that one subject we do not look forward to taking. We may not like that subject because of the teacher. In other cases, we loathe that subject because it is not compatible with us in the first place.
No matter what that subject is, we all know that it is useful to us when we grow up. It will not be in the curriculum if it is not significant in the first place.
But what if the subject your child hates is science? Now that is a shocker! Scientific reasoning and critical thinking are two of the most useful skill in this day and age. Without it, how can your little angel cope with the demands of society?
Whether you have a child who shows extreme dislike to science or if you want to introduce the subject to him or her, these are 3 effective and interesting ways of encouraging the science spirit within your child.
- Follow his or her interest
Nothing is more effective than paying attention and investing on the things your child is interested.
For example, your little learner shows excitement when he or she sees Star Wars, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Avatar, or anything that has to do with guns, robots and spaceship. Encourage this attitude by watching the film together or buying toys with the said genre.
Think of it this way: these films display the wonders of science. Though not all may be applicable in real life, at least your young one can appreciate the extent science can do in the society.
If your young learner is into dinosaurs, visit a museum. You can also buy him or her books and toys to observe the physical appearance as well as the texture of the creatures.
- Give time for experimentation
It is a given that children are naturally curious. But they will eventually grow out of their curiosity because of the restrictions their parents give them while the flame of inquisitiveness is still lit.
“Don’t do that because you may hurt yourself.” “Stop touching that or you may break it.” “Avoid staying in the kitchen. You might get into an accident or set the house on fire.”
We understand that you only want what is right for your child and you do not desire anything bad to happen to them. But if you continue stopping them from igniting their love to explore, you will eventually kill the inner scientist in them.
If you want your child to be free from accident, guide them or look after them when they want to experiment. Never restrict them when they are inspired to break or mix things.
Also, as an additional input, you can involve them while you are cooking. There are lots of interesting things that happen in the kitchen. Cooking is practically applied chemistry if you ask us.
- Enroll them in Little Believer’s Academy
Little Believer’s Academy is a daycare center in North Carolina. We give importance to the teaching of the S.T.E.M. or science, technology, engineering and mathematics and keeping them in touch with the Lord’s teachings at the same time.
Here in our humble daycare center, our little learners are encouraged to explore their surroundings while keeping them in a safe environment. Other than that, we also help them understand the natural things around them.
In that sense, we aid in igniting their sense of curiosity. Other than that, we also help them appreciate the creations God the Father has given unto us. Once they do so, they will be determined to be stewards of God’s creations.
Science is fun and should not be a reason why your child hates schooling. Follow the 3 tips we just gave you and let your child explore.
